    Athens Hills Closed Due to Extreme Fire Risk

    The hills of Lycabettus and Finopoulou in Athens will be closed from midnight due to extreme fire danger. The municipal police will operate in enhanced mode and use drones with thermal cameras for temperature control.     India's Skyroot Aerospace Launches First Private Orbital Rocket

    Skyroot Aerospace, an Indian private sector company, successfully launched Vikram-1, its first orbital rocket, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh. The rocket carried two symbolic payloads, 'Cosmic Bloom' and a small gold rocket with micro-carvings of three scientists, to a low Earth orbit at an altitude of 450 kilometers. This launch makes India the third country, after the US and China, to have a private company capable of launching an orbital rocket. The mission demonstrated several technologies such as propulsion and guidance systems and flight control systems. Skyroot Aerospace, founded in 2018, became India's first space startup to reach a billion-dollar valuation in May 2023. The launch of Vikram-1 is expected to boost India's ambitions in commercial space and attract more investments.

    Cyclospora Outbreak: Over 18,000 Cases in 45 US States

    An outbreak of cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness caused by a parasite, has infected over 18,000 people across 45 US states since May. The parasite, Cyclospora, causes severe diarrhea and has hospitalized hundreds. Michigan has been particularly affected, with over 10,000 cases.     TEPCO Starts 22nd Round of Radioactive Water Release from Fukushima Daiichi

    Limiting Meal Hours May Improve Cognitive Function in Older Adults

    A pilot study presented at NUTRITION 2026 found that older women who restricted their eating window to less than nine hours a day showed modest improvements in spatial planning and problem-solving compared to those who maintained a habitual period of approximately 12 hours. The study included 47 women between the ages of 50 and 79 with overweight or obesity, who were instructed to reduce their daily energy intake by 500 calories. Both groups lost a similar amount of weight after six months. The women who limited their meal hours also showed a trend to make fewer errors in tests related to memory and learning. The results suggest possible additional benefits when a person stops eating four hours before sleeping and concentrates food intake in a period of between eight and nine hours daily.
