    China Successfully Launches Tianlian III-01 Satellite

    Mosquitoes Evolving Resistance to Common Insecticides

    Researchers warn that mosquitoes are rapidly developing resistance to common insecticides used in public health programs. A study in India found that Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are activating specific enzymes to defend against alpha-cypermethrin, a common insecticide. The study identified beta-esterase as the main defense mechanism, with its activity increasing more than 21 times after exposure to the insecticide. While this does not yet indicate widespread resistance, it serves as an early warning that mosquitoes could start developing resistance to alpha-cypermethrin. The study suggests that rotation of insecticides and elimination of breeding sites may help delay the loss of effectiveness.
