Chile Declares Health Alert for Hantavirus

Chile's Ministry of Health has declared a health alert for hantavirus, an endemic disease transmitted by the long-tailed mouse, due to an increase in lethality this year. With 46 cases and 18 deaths recorded, the alert covers 13 regions from Atacama to Magallanes until July 31, 2027. The alert also addresses other threats like avian flu and arboviruses (dengue, zika, chikungunya, yellow fever). Symptoms include fever, muscle pain, and respiratory difficulty. Preventive measures include ventilating closed spaces, avoiding rodent contact, and seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms appear after exposure to rural or semi-rural areas.
