Microsoft's AI Outperforms Doctors in Complex Disease Diagnosis
Microsoft has developed an AI tool that diagnoses diseases sequentially, mimicking the approach of doctors. In a study published in Science, the AI was more than twice as accurate as general physicians in solving complex medical cases. The tool first decides which questions to ask about a patient's history, then determines which tests to order, and continuously updates its working hypotheses. It outperformed human doctors in both complex cases and emergency room scenarios. The AI also showed the ability to make more accurate diagnoses at lower costs by being more selective in ordering tests.61 sourcesSee all sources
