Microsoft has developed an AI tool that mimics doctors' step-by-step diagnostic approach, achieving twice the accuracy of general practitioners in complex cases, according to a study published in Science. The AI system, called 'diagnosis orchestration', first determines relevant patient questions, then decides which tests to conduct, and updates its hypotheses based on new information. It outperformed doctors in tests using unusual medical cases and hospital admission data, and also reduced diagnostic costs.
