Keto Diet Outperforms Mediterranean and Low-Fat Diets in Improving Fatty Liver and Prediabetes
A clinical trial found that the ketogenic diet achieved greater metabolic and hepatic improvements than the Mediterranean and a low-fat diet, even though all three allowed for similar weight loss in adults with obesity, prediabetes, and fatty liver. The study, published in Cell Metabolism, showed that the ketogenic diet reduced liver fat by 67%, compared to 45% in the Mediterranean diet and another 45% in the low-fat diet. It also improved insulin sensitivity and reversed prediabetes in more participants than the other diets.
