    Hanwha K9 Self-Propelled Howitzers Enter U.S. Market

    Hanwha Aerospace, a South Korean defense company, has secured its first contract to supply completed weapon systems to the U.S. military. The deal involves six K9M1 155mm self-propelled howitzers, with an option for another twelve, worth up to $262.9 million. These howitzers, based on the K9 series, will undergo operational testing for four years to potentially replace the U.S. Army's M777 and M109 howitzers. This marks a significant breakthrough for Hanwha, as it is the first domestic defense company to enter the U.S. market with a completed weapon system.

    GoldBod's Financial Performance: Surplus or Loss?

    The financial performance of Ghana's Gold Board (GoldBod) has sparked a political debate. The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, alleges a GH¢22 billion loss, while the Institute of Fiscal Policy Governance (IFPG) insists GoldBod recorded a GH¢5.44 billion surplus in 2025. Afenyo-Markin argues that costs absorbed by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) were not fully captured in GoldBod's assessment, leading to an incomplete picture of the institution's financial outcome. The IMF reported losses exceeding US$1.7 billion (GH¢22 billion) in 2025, representing approximately 1.5% of Ghana's GDP. GoldBod's CEO and the IFPG maintain that GoldBod has not recorded any losses since its establishment.
