Hanwha K9 Self-Propelled Howitzers Enter U.S. Market

Hanwha Aerospace, a South Korean defense company, has secured its first contract to supply completed weapon systems to the U.S. military. The deal involves six K9M1 155mm self-propelled howitzers, with an option for another twelve, worth up to $262.9 million. These howitzers, based on the K9 series, will undergo operational testing for four years to potentially replace the U.S. Army's M777 and M109 howitzers. This marks a significant breakthrough for Hanwha, as it is the first domestic defense company to enter the U.S. market with a completed weapon system.
