The US Navy has awarded a $76.6 billion contract to General Dynamics Electric Boat and Huntington Ingalls Industries for the construction of 14 nuclear-powered submarines. This includes five Columbia-class ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) and nine Virginia-class attack submarines (SSNs), with five of the latter featuring the Virginia Payload Module (VPM) and four equipped with the Conventional Prompt Strike system.
