East Africa's $16 Billion Refinery Bet: Dangote Launches Lamu Project
Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote and Kenyan President William Ruto launched a $16 billion oil refinery in Lamu, Kenya, aiming to reduce East Africa's dependence on fuel imports. The refinery, with a capacity of 700,000 barrels per day, will supply petroleum products to Kenya and other East African markets. The project is expected to be completed by 2030, with a combined 30% stake offered to regional governments. Meanwhile, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni expressed support for the project but indicated that Uganda would first establish the status of a proposed refinery at Tanga, Tanzania, before deciding on investing in the Lamu plant.3 sourcesSee all sources
