    UK Sanctions on Israeli Settlements Include Those in Syria's Golan Heights

    The UK's new sanctions on illegal Israeli settlements, announced on Tuesday, have been clarified to include those in the occupied Golan Heights in Syria, as well as in the occupied Palestinian territory. The UK government confirmed this to Middle East Eye. The Golan Heights, a strategic plateau, was occupied by Israel in 1967 and annexed in a move not recognized internationally. Around 20,000 Israeli settlers currently live there alongside approximately 26,000 native inhabitants. The UK's sanctions also target settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
