Argentina Authorizes Brazilian Navy Entry for Military Exercises Amid Diplomatic Tensions
President Javier Milei authorized the entry of Brazilian Navy personnel and equipment into Argentina for military exercises despite ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two countries. The exercises include FRATERNO XXXIX, VIEKAREN XXVI, SIFOREX XIV, and UNITAS LXVII, scheduled from August to October 2026. The authorization comes via Decree 717/2026, published in the Official Gazette, enabling these exercises despite the lack of legislative treatment for a similar bill sent to Congress. The exercises aim to increase interoperability, standardize planning, and strengthen regional cooperation. Meanwhile, Brazil has withdrawn its ambassador from Argentina in response to critical remarks from the Argentine government towards President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.9 sourcesSee all sources
