    Anthropic Adds Invisible Watermarks to AI-Generated Texts for EU Compliance

    Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI models, has started embedding invisible watermarks in texts generated by its newer models to comply with new EU transparency rules. The watermarks are imperceptible to humans but can be detected by special tools, allowing identification of AI-processed content. This move, effective from August 2, 2026, applies worldwide, not just in the EU. The watermarks can survive copy-pasting and some edits but may not be detectable if the text is heavily rewritten or translated. Anthropic has also signed the EU's Code of Good Practices on AI content transparency and will provide detection mechanisms in the future.
