Guatemala Issues Alert as Fuego Volcano Activity Intensifies
The Fuego Volcano in Guatemala has intensified its activity, leading to the issuance of a special alert by the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (INSIVUMEH). Almost constant explosions have been observed, accompanied by prolonged degassing and persistent incandescence in the crater. Incandescent material is being expelled, reaching heights of between 100 and 200 meters. In the coming hours and days, experts warn that there could be a greater emission of ash, mainly oriented towards the west and southwest. Additionally, there is a possibility that a lava flow could form in the direction of the Seca ravine. Official recommendations include activating local response plans, strengthening preventive information, maintaining vigilance in specific ravines, and advising the population on safety measures.4 sourcesSee all sources
