Mexico Boosts Earthquake Monitoring in Northern States
The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is expanding its seismic network with 58 new stations, focusing on historically under-instrumented northern states like Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, and Nuevo León. This initiative aims to improve magnitude and location estimates of earthquakes, generate intensity maps, and provide rapid damage-assessment tools for emergency crews. The project is funded by the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and supported by the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred).3 sourcesSee all sources
