    Tornado and Hailstorm Devastate Cremona, Italy

    A severe tornado and hailstorm hit Cremona, Italy, causing significant damage to the city's infrastructure and historic buildings. The storm, which lasted around 10 minutes, damaged the town hall tower, cathedral, and at least 10 other churches. Over 40 people were injured, with four sustaining femur fractures. More than 500 rescue interventions were triggered across Lombardy, with over 300 operations registered in Cremona alone. The city is dealing with extensive damage, including thousands of uprooted trees and around 10,000 damaged cars. Lombardy has requested a state of emergency.

    Keto Diet Outperforms Mediterranean and Low-Fat Diets in Improving Fatty Liver and Prediabetes

    A clinical trial found that the ketogenic diet achieved greater metabolic and hepatic improvements than the Mediterranean and a low-fat diet, even though all three allowed for similar weight loss in adults with obesity, prediabetes, and fatty liver. The study, published in Cell Metabolism, showed that the ketogenic diet reduced liver fat by 67%, compared to 45% in the Mediterranean diet and another 45% in the low-fat diet. It also improved insulin sensitivity and reversed prediabetes in more participants than the other diets. The extreme reduction of carbs in the keto diet was hypothesized to slow down new liver fat formation and encourage stored fat use.
