Merz Visits Hürtgenwald After Severe Forest Fire
Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) visited the Hürtgenwald community in North Rhine-Westphalia on Saturday to thank emergency services and inform himself about the situation following a severe forest fire. The fire broke out a week ago, keeping the fire brigade busy for days and leading to the evacuation of around 1800 people. It was extinguished on Friday. This was Merz's first public appearance after his summer vacation.
