Trump's Global Tariffs Challenged in Court Over Forced Labor
U.S. President Donald Trump's broad global tariffs, imposed in late July on nearly all imports from 80 countries, are being challenged in court. A panel of judges at the U.S. Court of International Trade will hear arguments on September 30 that question Trump's authority to use a 1970s trade law to levy tariffs ranging from 10% to 12.5% on products from countries like China, India, and Japan. The lawsuit argues that Trump is improperly using the trade law known as Section 301 to preserve a predetermined global tariff policy. The tariffs were implemented after the U.S. determined that these countries had failed to combat forced labor in the production of goods sent to the U.S.5 sourcesSee all sources
