Afghanistan's UN Representation: Calls for Expansion

Zaker Jalali, the second political deputy of Afghanistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has emphasized the need to expand the country's interaction with the United Nations (UN), particularly regarding its representation at the UN. He criticized the current situation where Afghanistan does not have an official representative present at the UN, despite UNAMA in Kabul enjoying diplomatic mission privileges. Political experts agree that having a permanent representative at the UN is crucial for Afghanistan to engage with the international community. Recently, António Guterres appointed Rabab Fatima as the new head of UNAMA, raising hopes for progress in this issue.
