Comcast Turns Routers into Motion Sensors

Comcast is activating free Wi-Fi motion sensing on millions of Xfinity gateways, allowing its routers to detect movement at home. The feature, part of the new Xfinity Shield service, works by monitoring disruptions in Wi-Fi signals between the router and connected devices. It sends activity alerts through the Xfinity app and offers Home, Away, and nighttime monitoring modes. While praised for adding an extra layer of home security, the feature has raised privacy concerns due to potential data sharing with third parties.
