Dead Humpback Whale Found in Greifswald Bodden

A dead humpback whale, approximately seven meters long, was discovered in the Greifswalder Bodden on Thursday. The animal was found floating on its back and had been dead for several hours before it was discovered. Experts from the German Maritime Museum plan to dissect the whale to determine the cause of death. This is the second humpback whale death in the Baltic Sea within a year. The Baltic Sea is not a natural habitat for humpback whales, and large whales are rare in the area due to the low-salt water. Several whale sightings have been reported along the Baltic coast in recent weeks, but it is not yet clear if they were all of the same animal.
