    Microplastics React with Water, Potentially Harming Cells

    A new study published in Nature reveals that microplastics, when they come into contact with water, can generate highly reactive molecules called reactive oxygen species (ROS). These ROS can alter molecules present in living organisms, potentially leading to cell damage. The study suggests that this chemical reaction could help explain the biological damage associated with microplastics.
