    Former Tema Oil Refinery Boss Convicted in US Bribery Scheme

    Asante Kwaku Berko, former Tema Oil Refinery Managing Director, was convicted in a US federal court for his role in a bribery scheme involving Ghanaian officials. The scheme, which ran from 2014 to 2017, involved over $1 million in bribes to secure approval for a power plant deal between Ghana and a Turkish energy company. Berko faces up to 30 years in prison at sentencing. The conviction has reignited scrutiny of Dr Kwabena Donkor, Ghana's Minister for Power at the time of the deal, who has denied any wrongdoing or involvement with Berko.

    Rigoberto Vellos Retains PUP Mayoral Nomination in Corozal

    Rigoberto Vellos, the incumbent three-term mayor, has retained the PUP's mayoral candidacy in Corozal Town after defeating newcomer Shajerie Rogers in a convention. Vellos secured 1,799 votes to Rogers' 1,175, winning by a margin of over 600 votes. The convention was marked by divisions within the PUP, with supporters of both candidates expressing strong views.
