Philippines to Remove System Loss Charges from Electricity Bills
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed Congress to amend the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) to remove system loss charges and the corresponding value-added tax (VAT) from consumers’ electricity bills. This move aims to reduce power costs for consumers. Energy Secretary Sharon Garin has stated that the Department of Energy (DoE) is studying regulations and consulting stakeholders to lower electricity rates. A joint task force consisting of energy agencies and electric cooperatives is working on plans to remove system loss charges. Meanwhile, Meralco Chairman Manuel V.
