U.S. Job Market Disappoints in July
The U.S. economy unexpectedly lost 23,000 jobs in July, missing estimates by a wide margin. The unemployment rate fell to 4.1% due to a decrease in the labor force participation rate. Job losses were seen in local government education (-50,000), retail trade (-19,000), and finance (-14,000). The health sector added 22,000 jobs but at a slower pace than the previous year. Average hourly earnings increased by 3.2% annually, below inflation.52 sourcesSee all sources
