Ukraine to Store Fuel Underground for Protection from Russian Attacks
Ukraine's government has launched an experimental project to store minimum reserves of oil and petroleum products underground during martial law. The project aims to protect fuel from Russian attacks by using salt caverns, depleted fields, underground tanks, and main pipelines for storage. From 2027, operators will be required to keep at least 20% of the total volume of diesel fuel from minimum reserves underground.
