The study, published in Nature Communications, found that fructose reduces cholesterol levels in neighboring cells, allowing them to escape and spread. This mechanism may explain why many ovarian cancer patients experience recurrence and metastasis despite initial response to chemotherapy. The findings suggest that dietary changes, such as limiting fructose intake, could potentially influence cancer progression.
