EU to End Russian Gas Imports by 2027 Despite Energy Crisis
President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has reiterated the EU's commitment to ending all Russian gas imports by the end of 2027, despite the ongoing energy crisis and high prices. She noted that the EU's dependence on Russian gas has already decreased from 45% to 12% and plans to reduce it to zero by the end of next year. Von der Leyen acknowledged the increased costs for European households and industry, with gas prices up by 140% and diesel fuel prices doubled since the end of February, resulting in an additional €100 billion spent on fossil fuel imports.18 sourcesSee all sources
