    Sweden Doubles Penalties for Gang-Related Crime

    Sweden has doubled penalties for gang-related crime, including for minors, effective August 1st. This move aims to combat widespread gang violence where criminal networks use teenagers for brutal contract killings and armed offenses. Previously, a gang member caught with a firearm could face up to four years in prison, but now they may face up to eight years. The maximum penalty for doubled sentences in Sweden will be 18 years. It was passed in mid-June by the Swedish parliament and came into force on August 1st.
