China Boosts Uranium Enrichment Capacity with New Plant
China has begun constructing its sixth uranium enrichment plant using centrifuges (CEP-6) in Lanzhou, which is expected to significantly increase its national uranium enrichment capacity. The new plant, estimated to produce 1.5 to 2 million separation work units (SWU) per year, is part of China's expanding civilian nuclear program aimed at reaching 88 GW of nuclear power capacity by the end of the decade. However, the project raises concerns due to the dual-use nature of uranium enrichment technologies.5 sourcesSee all sources
