Brazil's Central Bank Cuts Interest Rate for Fourth Consecutive Time, to 14%
The Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) of Brazil's Central Bank has decided to cut the basic interest rate, Selic, by 0.25 percentage points, bringing it down to 14% per year. This is the fourth consecutive cut, marking the lowest level since March 2025. The decision was widely expected by the market and comes amidst signs of easing inflation, with the IPCA-15 (Broad Consumer Price Index) for July showing a marginal increase of 0.06%, well below market expectations. The Copom will meet again in September, with the next decision expected on September 16.
