NYC Mayor's Pied-à-Terre Tax Rollout Ruled Invalid by Judge

A Staten Island judge has ruled that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's administration must redo the rollout of its pied-à-terre tax, dealing a significant setback to one of the mayor's key policies. The decision, made by Judge Wayne Ozzi, sided with homeowners who challenged the tax's implementation, arguing that the administration had not performed sufficient due diligence and had violated their due process rights. The tax, which targets second homes in the city worth over $5 million, was initially announced with letters sent to around 17,000 homeowners and a public list of nearly 900,000 properties that could potentially be subject to the tax.
