Joe Belgio, a 44-year-old Marine veteran and firefighter, is suing Gibsons Steakhouse & Bar in Oak Brook, Illinois, after eating contaminated oysters led to permanent brain damage. Belgio fell ill, went into cardiac arrest, and spent months in a coma. He is now reportedly bedridden and requires round-the-clock care. The lawsuit also names two seafood suppliers. The restaurant disputes the allegations, claiming no other illnesses were reported.
