One in Ten Young Germans Neither Studies nor Works
The proportion of young people aged 20 to 24 in Germany who are neither employed nor in education or training (NEETs) has increased from 8.8% in 2022 to 10% in 2025. This trend is higher than in countries like the Netherlands, Sweden, and the Czech Republic, but lower than the EU average of 12.9%. The highest rates are in Romania, Bulgaria, and France. In Germany, young women are more affected than men, and the situation is worse in larger cities than in rural areas. Reasons for not participating in the labor market include job search, care responsibilities, and health problems.18 sourcesSee all sources
