King Willem-Alexander Receives Research on Royal Family's Role in Colonial History
King Willem-Alexander commissioned and received the results of an independent research project investigating the role of the House of Orange-Nassau in the colonial history of the Netherlands. The study, spanning over four centuries, found that the royal family actively supported colonialism, including slavery, and benefited financially from it, but had relatively little influence on Dutch colonial policy. The king described the findings as 'shocking and confrontational'.6 sourcesSee all sources
