Sugar Consumption in Infancy Linked to Brain Health in Later Life
Chinese scientists found that limiting sugar intake during the first 1000 days of life can significantly reduce the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease later in life. A study published in npj Aging journal analyzed data from a natural experiment in post-WWII Britain, where sugar rationing was lifted in 1953. Those who consumed less sugar as infants had a lower risk of dementia and depression, and their brains appeared younger on average. Another study by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology found that limiting sugar intake in the first two years reduced dementia risk by 23%.5 sourcesSee all sources
