    Kazakhstan's First Kurultai Elections Draw International Observers

    Kazakhstan is set to hold its first election of deputies to the new unicameral Kurultai on August 23, following constitutional reforms that changed the political system. The Central Election Commission has accredited over 250 international observers from nine countries and four international organizations, including the OSCE, CIS, and CSTO. The Kurultai will replace the previous Majilis and Senate, with 145 deputies elected for five years.

    India's Envoy to US Accuses Pakistan of Destroying Indus Water Treaty's Spirit

    India's envoy to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, has accused Pakistan of dismantling the goodwill and friendship underpinning the Indus Water Treaty over the past five decades. In an article published in Newsweek, Kwatra said India's decision to put the treaty in abeyance merely acknowledged what Pakistan's conduct had already destroyed. He argued that Pakistan's persistent hostility, cross-border terrorism, and obstruction of India's initiatives under the treaty had eroded India's faith in the agreement. Kwatra also stated that any future cooperation between India and Pakistan depends on Islamabad ending its terror activities and obstructionist policies.
