    Thai University Student Rescued After Fake Kidnapping by Phone Scammers

    A Thai university student was tricked by phone scammers posing as telecom company representatives and police, claiming his personal information was involved in a money laundering case. He was deceived into transferring 36,000 Thai baht via Telegram and was told to move out of his residence, change his phone number, and cut off contact with his family. When the scammers realized he had no more money, they took control of his LINE account and demanded a ransom of 200,000 to 300,000 Thai baht by staging a fake kidnapping and injury using red drink and coffee to simulate blood. The victim's family suspected something was wrong and contacted the school for verification before reporting to the police. The police arrived at the apartment while the student was still on the phone with the scammers and rescued him.
