SPÖ Leadership: Marterbauer Delays Decision on Party Chairmanship
Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer (SPÖ) has not yet decided on taking over the SPÖ party leadership, despite being considered the favorite. He stated that he is currently focused on treating his cancer and his duties as Finance Minister. Marterbauer also refused to comment on the future of current party chairman Andreas Babler, saying they 'owe each other nothing'. The interim party chairs, Eva-Maria Holzleitner and Philip Kucher, hope for a unified party congress with one candidate for the long-term leadership.

However, he later reversed his decision and accepted the challenge, confirming his attendance in a video posted on social media.
