87-Year-Old Woman Evicted After 71 Years in Madrid Home; Protests Erupt
Maricarmen Abascal, an 87-year-old woman, was evicted from her Madrid apartment after living there for 71 years. The eviction sparked massive protests across Spain, highlighting the country's housing crisis. Maricarmen's family had an old rental contract, but after changes in ownership, the rent became unaffordable. Activists and politicians have called for housing reforms, including a 'Maricarmen Decree' to prevent similar evictions.
