Chinese Telecom Fraud Gangs Expand Along Myanmar Roads
Chinese telecom fraud gangs are expanding their operations along several roads in Myanmar, including the Jaiñseki Road from Kyaikto to Jaínseik, the Jai Ni Sein Kyi Road from Kya Inn Seik to Ja Sein Gyi, and the Jainsaykhi-Gateway Road from Hpa-An to Kawkareik. These operations are maintained using Thai WiFi networks, Myanmar military networks, and Starlink devices. Local residents attribute the increase in telecom fraud activities to collusion between armed leaders in various regions, who are relocating to these areas. The gangs operate from compounds with supporting facilities like restaurants and bars, and some have strict management policies prohibiting personnel from leaving and villagers from approaching. Despite the presence of armed groups like DKBA, KNU's 6th Battalion, and KNLA, no restrictive or punitive measures have been taken against telecom fraud-related businesses.17 sourcesSee all sources
