    German Engineering Orders Surge in June

    German engineering companies reported a sharp increase in orders in June, with a 21% rise in real terms compared to the same period last year. The surge was driven by strong demand from countries outside the eurozone, particularly in the machinery and equipment sector (+12.7%) and the manufacture of computers, electronic and optical products (+22.7%). The increase was also boosted by large-scale orders for the German Armed Forces and infrastructure projects. However, orders from Germany and the eurozone decreased by 2% and 8% respectively. The positive trend continued into the second quarter, with an 8% increase in orders compared to the previous year.

    South Korean Fraud Gang Dismantled in Kazakhstan

    A South Korean fraud gang that had been operating in Cambodia and Southeast Asia moved to Kazakhstan, where they were recently apprehended in a joint operation between South Korean and Kazakhstani authorities. The gang, consisting mostly of men in their 20s and 30s, established call centers overseas and impersonated South Korean financial regulators and prosecutors to defraud victims. They employed a 'self-imposed isolation' tactic, coercing victims into isolating themselves in hotels and other locations due to fear, cutting off contact with the outside world. The gang then instructed victims to transfer funds to designated accounts, swindling them out of large sums of money. So far, 16 victims have been identified, with losses totaling 6 billion South Korean won (approximately 5.2 million USD). Authorities suspect the actual losses could be in the tens of billions of South Korean won and are continuing their investigation to identify more victims and other criminal activities.
