Former INM Commissioner Acquitted in Migrant Station Fire Case
A federal judge in Ciudad Juárez acquitted Francisco Garduño Yáñez, former commissioner of the National Institute of Migration (INM), of charges related to the fire at a migrant station in Ciudad Juárez on March 27, 2023, where 40 migrants died and 27 were injured. Garduño was accused of failing to fulfill his obligations to monitor, protect, and ensure the safety of the people and installations under his charge. The judge determined that Garduño complied with all the conditions imposed on him, including paying damages, issuing a public apology, and attending human rights workshops. President Claudia Sheinbaum ruled out that another investigation will be opened against Garduño.7 sourcesSee all sources
