    Metal Detectorist Uncovers Massive Viking Age Silver Hoard in Finland

    A Finnish metal detectorist, Kalle Lappinen, discovered a substantial Viking Age silver hoard containing over 4,000 coins near Sysmä, northeast of Helsinki. The hoard, weighing approximately 10 pounds, consists of coins from present-day Sweden, Britain, Germany, Turkey, and Iran, dating back to between 1000 and 1050 A.D. This is the largest such discovery in Finland, containing more than twice as many coins as the previous record. Archaeologists believe Sysmä was an important trade hub during the Late Iron Age. The identity of the hoard's owner remains unknown.

    Philippine Home Prices Post Slowest Growth in Seven Years in Q2 2026

    Home prices in the Philippines grew at the slowest pace on record in the second quarter of 2026, with an annual increase of 0.4%. This marked the weakest year-on-year real estate price expansion since the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) began publishing its house price index in 2019. The slowdown was driven by a decline in residential property prices outside the National Capital Region (NCR), which offset sustained growth in the NCR. Housing prices in NCR rose by 5.2% annually, while those outside NCR declined by 2.7%. Condominium prices increased by 6%, while house prices slipped by 4.1%.
