Latin America Makes Progress in Preventing Dementia

A summit of experts in Buenos Aires discussed the conclusions of LatAm-FINGERS, the first randomized clinical trial in Latin America evaluating an integrated intervention on lifestyle habits to prevent dementia. The study showed improvements in cognitive abilities in older adults who participated in an intensive program for two years. The meeting focused on modifiable factors influencing dementia risk, such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and social isolation. The LatAm-FINGERS program included two levels of accompaniment, with one group showing a 55% improvement in memory, processing speed, and executive functions. The results suggest that a preventive strategy can be sustained in heterogeneous social and health contexts if it has professional follow-up and accessible proposals.

Serbian President Vucic's Speech at UN General Assembly to Focus on Serbs' Situation in Kosovo

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is set to address the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, expected to highlight the situation of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, respect for international law, and Serbia's territorial integrity. Security studies researcher Nikola Vujinovic anticipates Vucic's speech will emphasize the lack of support for Kosovo's independence among UN members and the need for international backing for Serbia's positions. Political scientist Ivan Tomic believes the president should emphasize the daily struggles of Serbs in Kosovo, including their freedom, property security, and institutional fairness. Both experts stress the importance of international law and the UN's role in maintaining global order.
