    ICE Wastes Millions in Detention Expansion

    The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has found that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has wasted millions of dollars in its rapid push to expand detention capacity. The agency spent nearly $3 million on tents at Guantanamo Bay that were never used, and $20 million on maintaining purchased warehouses that never housed detainees. ICE also spent $7.1 million on unneeded meals at Fort Bliss and $2.85 million on assembling tents that didn't meet detention standards. The GAO report highlights significant waste and mismanagement in ICE's initiatives since President Trump returned to office.
