Luis Felipe Salomão Assumes Presidency of STJ with Focus on Speeding Up Cases and Reducing Backlog
Luis Felipe Salomão has assumed the presidency of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) with a focus on reducing the volume of cases and accelerating the response of the court. In 2025, STJ received 508,523 new cases and judged 781,788 cases, registering an average of one decision every seven minutes. Salomão's bet is the recently approved relevance filter, expected to come into effect in September, which will help the court define which topics are relevant and should be judged. Another concern of the minister is with the advancement of the use of artificial intelligence in the court. Salomão will lead the court for the next two years, with Minister Mauro Campbell Marques as his vice-president.
