China Proposes New Tech Export Bans Covering AI, Biotech, and Solar Power
China's Ministry of Commerce and Science and Technology announced a review of the catalog of prohibited or restricted export technologies, proposing to ban the export of 14 technologies and restrict another 26 in strategic sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), biotechnology, and solar energy. The proposal covers 23 AI technologies, twelve photovoltaic, and five biotechnologies, including those related to large language models, intelligent agents, computing capacity, and advanced solar cell manufacturing. The ministry justified the initiative due to the growing application of these technologies in sensitive areas and sought to prevent the risks of 'loss of control and inappropriate dissemination' of advanced knowledge.62 sourcesSee all sources
