Virginia Governor Restores Voting Rights for Over 66,000 Former Felons
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger has restored voting rights to more than 66,000 formerly incarcerated individuals who have completed their sentences. This move reverses the policy of her predecessor, Republican Glenn Youngkin, who restored rights on a case-by-case basis. Spanberger criticized Youngkin's approach and praised the restoration of rights as empowering Virginians to participate in democracy. The restoration also comes ahead of a November referendum on automatic restoration of voting rights for released felons.8 sourcesSee all sources
