Belarus Boosts Military Presence Near Ukraine Border

Belarus is strengthening its military forces near the Ukrainian border, according to recent statements by Belarusian officials. The country is forming a new airborne assault brigade, the 37th separate airborne assault brigade, in the Gomel region. This brigade will include airborne, artillery, anti-aircraft, and reconnaissance units. The commander of Belarus' special operations forces, Alexander Ilyukovich, stated that the southern direction, which includes the border with Ukraine, is one of the most unstable. Belarus is also bolstering its air defense by transferring the 147th anti-aircraft missile regiment to the special operations forces. Military experts suggest that these moves could be a response to the war in Ukraine and a show of force against potential threats.
